How Will Classrooms Change In The Future?

Today’s classrooms in most Indian schools and colleges look similar. Theater like arrangement for student seating. Teacher takes center-stage; typically in front of black/whiteboard plus so called “smart class”, it may be smart board or big interactive displays. This change at best has empowered teachers with good digital content: Animations, Videos, simulations etc. some teachers tend to ignore it. Some use it as gap fillers but there are many teachers who do a lot of preparation and make theirs lessons very interesting by optimal use of digital content. At the same time retaining their spontaneity and time student engagement. They are the passionate ones. Kudos to them.

Our classrooms of the future, could be called learning studios.

The student furniture arrangement could be in clusters, and rearrangeable, in order to enable team work and group learning activities.

The instructor is now a facilitator/ moderator.

The class session will not be about knowledge transmission via lecturing. That can happen using online learning.

Today, in most schools in India, classrooms and laboratories are different rooms, different slot in the time table. Most effective could be if we can bring this together in one bigger room. On one side of the room could be equipped and facilitated to experiment and construct what they learn in first part of the session.
