There are practices to proctor online tests.
Here is how it looks:
Each test taker has digital device: laptop/smartphone with a camera attached etc., for taking the tests. For such that high stakes tests or real exams, they still have to be proctored.
The standard practice is each test taker’s video is continuously captured and streamed to a proctoring center. It can be a remote facility. Each proctor will see 8-12 windows of test takers. If they notice any unusual activity/cheating, they can flag it and even remotely pause or suspend a particular test taker’s session.
Now, using AI techniques, we able to in most cases, do this automatically. Hence the request of manual proctors will reduce substantially.
How ready are our educators and schools and universities for such a model?
We should trial it during this lockdown period and try a change in mind-set. I am not saying we should do away with traditional assessments and testing. I only think remote test delivery and proctoring are possible with tech.
