Immersive learning using technology is considered one of the most effective ways of learning. Even as long as 15 years ago, my friend David Gardner, a true thought leader in this space had created a learning event called the virtual oil spill. Using Flash technology at that time a complete story, with animated scenarios were constructed.
The big differentiator was the ability for Each participant learner, could chose a role like ship’s captain, fire service, media, world wildlife fund, green peace representive etc. Each person/learner would be able to pick a role and enter the scene actually play the role using an appropriate avatar. Such immersive learning experiences are more effective, collaborative learning experiences.
The behavioural aspects and the interactions are captured and used for assessment and feedback. I believe with advancements in technology like Augmented reality an virtual reality, immersive learning experiences can be very much more effective for learning. We at Excelsoft have delivered such immersive learning experiences to various sectors of education, and corporate training.
